Rainy Day Revelry | Engagement Session

The date was set.  Outfits were chosen.  Hair and Makeup appointments were made.  Everyone was excited for the engagement shoot on the BeltLine and couldn’t wait to get a gorgeous sunset skyline photo…  And then it rained.

Rachel and Nathaniel were not discouraged and we put our heads together for a new game plan.  It was simple – use the elements to our advantage and turn the plan of a picturesque sunny session into a fun, but more intimate, one.  We had a great time walking the BeltLine (which wasn’t near as crowded due to the weather) and their dog didn’t mind the wet weather one bit.

The mist and fog turned the usual bright, glowing city skyline into one of a more soft, quiet and romantic backdrop as we rounded out our session on the Jackson Street Bridge.

Calling All Superheroes | Weber Family

Weber | blog 1

Like all families, family sessions are also each unique and tailored to the personalities, interests and energy of the family we are working with.  For the Weber boys it’s all about superheroes and we were more than happy to chase them around to capture the battles, cape and sword play and the many expressions that accompanied the action!  Their props made the shoot so fun and full of excitement.  Kudos to mom and dad for knowing what their kids love to do and what sparks smiles and laughter from them!

Shooting on the grounds of our studio at the Goat Farm Arts Center was a great spot for this family as they like to walk around exploring, running and having fun.  Thanks to the Weber’s for a fun morning!

Grant Hill Farms | Wedding Venue

As wedding and event photographers, Imagine our excitement when we found out that an old high school classmate and his wife have opened up a new venue outside of the city.  We couldn’t wait to check it out and share it with our brides and event planner friends.  Upon hearing of it’s completion, we happily escaped the city one afternoon last week to explore this new wedding and event venue, Grant Hill Farms.  Surrounded by 88 acres of farmland, it’s hard to believe this peaceful retreat is just 16 miles outside of Athens, Georgia (Go Dawgs!).  A lot of thought and planning went into this space and we can’t wait to photograph an event there soon!

Elissa + David | Portraits

Agnes Scott was the perfect venue for ASC Alumna, Elissa, to say “I do” this weekend.  Elissa and David took advantage of the beautiful grounds and the intimate, peaceful Julia Thompson Smith Chapel for their wedding day.

We are always obliged to photograph weddings here!

Congratulations to Elissa + David!

Down the River with SEARCH

During our recent trip to New Orleans we had the pleasure of meeting and working with Urban Earth Design Studios, an event decor company that donated some amazing floral and design elements for a fundraising event with the SEARCH Foundation. SEARCH provides financial help to event industry professionals during times of crisis. After making friends with the Urban Earth team at a networking event we decided to help them out in the spirit of giving by providing some photography of their stunning decor. Many of the flowers were locally sourced and much of what you see was made by hand, from scratch, by their team. The theme for the event was inspired by the beauty of the local wetlands. Check out more of their amazing work here. If you are in the event industry, definitely check out SEARCH, and follow what they are doing for event professionals in need.

A “Refreshing” Backdrop

We love working at the World of Coca-Cola for events because no matter what angle you take the photos from you are going to end up with something interesting and colorful in the background. Yesterday we arrived at dawn to photograph an early morning networking event for Invetech, who was in town for the AACC Conference (American Association of Clinical Chemistry). Our compliments to the chefs at Proof of the Pudding as well for some delicious biscuits and grits!

Tips for pictures with sparklers

1. Safety first. Be careful with sparklers and wear a protective helmet to avoid showering sparks.

2. You don’t have to wait till it’s totally dark out to enjoy sparklers and get some fun pictures. Sparklers will look great in photos during the early evening.

3. If you have a DSLR camera and a 50mm lens try opening up the aperture to the lowest number, such as F1.8, and setting your auto-focus for sparks in the foreground.

4. Don’t use a flash. The light from the sparkler will create a nice warm glow on the face of the subject.

5. If you can control the shutter speed on your camera, try a 30th or 15th of a second to create trails of light.

6. Using the slower shutter speeds suggested above, pan the camera with the subject to create a cool motion blur effect.

7. Sparklers look good in black & white too.

8. Photograph the subject from the side with the sparkler in the front of them for a more dramatic look with the lighting.
